Ready For Battle Swords
Every LARPer remembers their first sword. The moment you pick one up, feel the balance, and realise this is actually happening. Ready For Battle is the line we built for exactly that moment: solid foam swords designed to get you on the field without fuss, without a steep learning curve, and without spending more than you need to on a first weapon.
That said, Ready For Battle is not just a beginner's compromise. It's a range that experienced players reach for when they want a reliable backup, a character-specific prop, or a second sword for a new build without committing to a premium price. The quality is real. The choice is genuine. The only thing missing is the premium price tag.
One Sword, Ready to Go
Unlike some of our other ranges, Ready For Battle swords are complete weapons straight out of the box. No assembly, no component choices, no decisions to make beyond which one fits your character. Pick it up, pass your weapon check, and get into the fight.
Each sword in the range is 75 cm, a length that works across most LARP combat systems and suits a wide range of fighting styles. Construction follows the same standard as the rest of the Epic Armoury range: an EVA foam blade around a fiberglass core, finished in latex. Durable enough for regular full-contact play, safe enough to pass weapon checks at the vast majority of European and North American LARP events, and light enough that you'll still have energy left at the end of the day.
Built for the Field, Not Just the Display Case
A common worry for first-time buyers is whether an affordable sword will actually hold up. It's a fair question. The short answer is yes, provided you give it a little basic care.
The latex finish is what protects the foam underneath, and keeping it in good shape is straightforward. A light application of silicone maintenance gel every few months prevents cracking and keeps the surface looking sharp. Store your sword away from prolonged direct sunlight and heat, and avoid leaving it compressed under other gear for long periods. That's genuinely all it takes. A well-maintained Ready For Battle sword will go several seasons of active play without complaint.
Finding the Right Sword for Your Character
The range covers a broad spread of archetypes, which is part of the point. A medieval knight build calls for something different than a Roman soldier, an elven ranger, or an orcish brawler, and the silhouette of your weapon matters more to character cohesion than most new players expect.
If you're not sure where to start, think about your character first rather than the sword. What world are they from? What's their fighting style, or at least the impression of a fighting style you want to project? Practical and military, elegant and fantastical, rough and improvised? The answer will point you toward the right end of the range quickly. And if you're genuinely undecided, the Fighter and the Knight are the most versatile starting points: clean, readable silhouettes that work across a wide range of settings and system types.
Your First Sword Shouldn't Be Your Last
Ready For Battle is a starting point, not a ceiling. Once you've got a few events under your belt and a clearer sense of how you fight and what your character needs, you'll have a much better idea of where to invest next. In the meantime, you'll be equipped, you'll be legal, and you'll be ready.
