PU ArmorĀ
PU armor is molded polyurethane armor: a lightweight synthetic material that replicates the surface detail and visual presence of metal or leather at a fraction of the weight, with no conditioning, no break-in period, and minimal upkeep between events. It is one of the most practical choices for LARPers, reenactors, and cosplayers who want a visually complete kit that is ready to wear from day one.
Epic Armoury's PU armor covers the full body across five subcategories: chest, shoulders, arms, greaves, and complete sets. Every piece is built to the same construction standard and runs across seven consistent aesthetic families, making it straightforward to build a matched kit from individual pieces or pick up a complete set in one purchase.
At a glance:
- Material: Molded polyurethane (PU)
- Weight: Significantly lighter than leather or metal equivalents
- Fastenings: Adjustable strap-and-buckle throughout
- Maintenance: Wipe clean with a damp cloth, no conditioning required
- Sizing: Molded and fixed in shape ā check sizing before purchasing
- Use: Suitable for LARP, reenactment, cosplay, and costume
What Is PU Armor?
PU armor, or polyurethane armor, is made from a synthetic material molded into a fixed shape under pressure, allowing for precise surface detail and consistent construction across every piece. It holds its shape permanently, requires almost no maintenance, and is ready to wear straight out of the box.
The practical differences from other materials are straightforward. PU armor is lighter than leather and significantly lighter than metal, which makes it comfortable to wear for a full day on the field. It is more affordable than comparable leather or metalwork, which makes quality armor more accessible without compromising on visual impact. It does not develop a patina the way leather does and the fit is fixed rather than adjustable, but for buyers who want a complete, visually striking kit without the weight or upkeep of other materials, polyurethane armor covers that ground very well.
PU armor also mixes naturally with other materials. It pairs well with leather accessories, fabric base layers, chainmail, and fur, and the consistent finish across Epic Armoury's PU range means pieces from different subcategories sit comfortably alongside each other.
What You Will Find in This Category
Five subcategories cover every part of the body, all built around the same seven aesthetic families: Spartan, Nordic, Palace Guard, Outrider, Mercenary, Knightly, and Barbarian.
PU Armor Chest: The starting point for most builds. The chest piece sets the silhouette and visual direction for everything around it. Start here if you are building a kit from scratch.
PU Armor Shoulders: Pauldrons and spaulders that add width and presence to the upper body. Start here if your torso armor is already sorted and you are working outward.
PU Armor Bracers: Forearm protection ranging from compact bracers to fuller vambraces. The most versatile entry point in the range and a good first addition to any kit.
PU Armor Greaves: Lower leg protection that completes the armored silhouette from the ground up. Start here if you are finishing a kit that is already strong on the upper body.
PU Armor Sets: Complete matched kits in a single purchase. Seven sets cover the full aesthetic range, each combining chest, shoulder, arm, and leg protection. Start here if you want a cohesive full kit from day one.
How PU Armor Fits
PU armor is fitted with adjustable strap-and-buckle systems throughout, but the molded shape of each piece is fixed. Unlike leather, which can be tightened or loosened to accommodate different fits, a PU piece sits in a specific shape. Getting the sizing right before purchasing is more important here than with most other armor materials.
All Epic Armoury PU armor is designed to be worn over a base layer. A linen shirt, tunic, or gambeson underneath improves comfort significantly, prevents straps from sitting on bare skin, and affects how each piece sits during longer events. If you plan to wear a gambeson or other substantial base layer, factor that into your sizing decision.
How to Care for PU Armor
Wipe each piece down with a damp cloth after events. No oils, waxes, or conditioning products are needed or recommended. Store pieces away from direct sunlight and heat, both of which can cause warping or discoloration over time. Keep them flat or upright in a cool dry place between events, and replace straps if they show wear.
